Strategic partnership for innovation and sustainability around ionic liquids
Proionic teams up with Carl ROTH, a reliable supplier for laboratories for more than 140 years. Their customers will profit from both, a broader product portfolio and proionic’s outstanding ionic liquid quality in the future.
Carl ROTH will take over the official small-scale distribution of proionic's best-selling products. The focus is on products used as electrolytes and as solvents for various (bio)-polymers.
For the first time research institutes will have access to proionic’s ionic liquids in small amounts, which are usually only available on an industrial scale.
Container sizes are 10g and 50g for electrolytes and 25g and 100g for (bio)polymersolvents.
To learn more, visit us after June 1st at www.proionic.at or at www.carlroth.com.
Bernhard Ludwig, Executive Director Operations & Sales: "We want to further contribute to the development of the ionic liquid market and support R&D and academia by reaction to their need for ionic liquids that are available throughout all development phases, from the gram to the ton scale at reasonable prices and at the same high quality. At proionic, we will continue to focus on larger quantities, but with Carl ROTH we have found a partner that can reliably take over the distribution of small quantities.”

Honor to whom honor is due!
On the occasion of the award of the renowned Wilhelm Exner Medal 2023 to Prof. Omar M. Yaghi, one of the world's most cited chemists and leading authorities on nanoscience, Roland Kalb will give a lecture entitled "Toward Feedstock Agnostic Manufacturing of Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Lignocellulosic Waste: The Key Role of Applied Ionic Liquid Technologies". Prof. Omar M. Yaghi is professor at the University of California, Berkley, USA.
Since 1921, the Wilhelm Exner Foundation of the Austrian Trade Association has honored selected researchers with the Wilhelm Exner Medal. The award is given to personalities whose discoveries have directly or indirectly promoted the economy in an outstanding way. Among the medal winners are well-known names such as Lord Ernest Rutherford, Carl Bosch, Ferdinand Porsche und Anton Zeilinger.
The award ceremony is accompanied by a scientific symposium. The content of the Exner Lectures is based on the topics of the medal winners and brings business and science together.
Roland Kalb is founder and Executive Director R&Dof the Austrian company proionic GmbH, a global leader in development and manufacture of ionic liquids, but also Affiliate Senior Scientist and Industrial Advisor at the Joint BioEnergy Institute, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. Thus, his own life story reflects the basic idea of the Exner Medal and is another good example of how the combination between science and business can harmonize across the globe.
Exner Lectures 2023
When: May 22nd, starting 12:30 p.m.
Where: Palais Eschenbach, Eschenbachgasse 11, 1010 Vienna
Tickets are available here.
Roland Kalb, Executive Director R&D & Founder: "With Prof. Omar M. Yaghi, I share not only the enthusiasm for applied science and technology, but also the same place of work and vibrant spirit of the San Francisco Bay area, at Berkeley, California. It is a pleasure for me that this prestigious prize is awarded to such a visionary.”
Meet us at Paper & Biorefinery Conference in Graz!
On May 24 and 25 a proionic delegation will participate at the Paper & Biorefinery Conference in Graz focusing on the future of the pulp and paper sector. International experts will present latest developments focusing on sustainable energy. In addition, a trade show will help to connect companies from various industries. Proionic´s focus is to discuss its new HIPE-REC technology utilizing distillable ionic liquids to valorize different kinds of biomass and produce high purity fractions of both lignin and cellulose. The suitability of this fractions for sustainable products like sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), Cellulosic filaments, but also products originating from extracted Lignin have already been proven.
Marks Damm, Head of R&D: "Our aim is to broaden our network and connect with companies, which are already active in that field for a long time. We aspire to initiate collaborations with equipment providers which will allow us to optimize all relevant process steps relevant for our HIPE-REC technology and to find partners to evaluate the fitness of our cellulose pulp for paper production. The Paper & Biorefinery Conference is the most suitable platform for that and takes place in our hometown. We are all looking forward to that event!”
